A Nightly Ritual: Homemade Ginger Turmeric Tea

Homemade Ginger Turmeric Tea in large mason jar.

In a world that moves fast, I am always looking for quiet moments.

For Don and me, our homemade ginger turmeric tea has become just that. It’s a nightly ritual of connection. It our time to sit around the kitchen island talk through our day.

This golden tea blends two of nature’s most healing roots ginger and turmeric. Each brings its own benefits.

The Benefits of Ginger

Fresh ginger supports the body in multiple ways:

  • Aids digestion and reduces bloating

  • Soothe stomach discomfort

  • Supports circulation

  • Natural anti-inflammatory properties

  • Warms the body from the inside out

Ginger is especially helpful in the evening, when the digestive system is winding down and the body is preparing for rest.

The Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric is known for its active compound, curcumin. Curcumin is one of the most researched natural anti-inflammatory substances in the world.

Turmeric:

  • Reduces chronic inflammation

  • Supports joint health

  • Boosts immune function

  • Supports liver detoxification

But here’s the important part many people miss…

The Secret Ingredient: Black Pepper and Curcumin Absorption

Curcumin, the star compound in turmeric, is powerful, but on its own the body absorbs very little of it. That is where black pepper comes in. Black pepper contains piperine, a natural compound that increases curcumin absorption by up to 2,000 percent. Without pepper, most of turmeric’s benefits simply pass through your system. With pepper, your body can actually use what you are drinking.

That’s why this recipe recommends adding a small pinch of fresh black pepper to your mug. It’s a tiny step that makes a massive difference.

Think of it as “unlocking” turmeric’s full potential.

A Simple Recipe with Powerful Results

This homemade tea is made in batches and enjoyed throughout the week.

HOMEMADE GINGER TUMERIC TEA
Ingredients:

Sliced ginger turmeric in a 1/2 cup container.
  • 10 cups water

  • ¼ cup fresh turmeric, sliced

  • ¼ cup fresh ginger, sliced

  • Optional: pinch of black pepper per cup

Instructions:

  1. Add water, ginger, and turmeric to a pot

  2. Bring to a boil

  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 10–15 minutes

  4. Let cool slightly

  5. Store in a glass jar in the refrigerator

  6. Reheat nightly as needed

It’s simple. No powders. No additives. Just real food doing real work.

MEL’S TIPS:
1. Not an exact science, just a heaping 1/2 cup of ginger & turmeric.
2. I store in a 1/2 gallon Mason pitcher (Amazon) with the ginger & turmeric slices.
3. I do not reheat with the slices. It makes it too “spicy” for me.
